What Exactly Is Conscious Reflection?

We’ll keep this simple. Conscious reflection simply means to reflect on your day while being aware of and understanding:

  • your own thought processes, emotions, and behaviors.

Conscious Reflection is a simple skill that can be learned with a little practice. You may be surprised at how this one little skill will enhance every area of your life.

So let’s take a look at the 4 Ways to Become More Successful Through Conscious Reflection.

Schedule 10 Minutes To Consciously Reflect On Your Day

Doing this will allow you to create a foundation of self-growth that will help you to be more successful.

Most people don’t even recognize that conscious reflection is needed to reach their goals. Because life can get pretty hectic, it’s really important to schedule this time.

You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how 10 short minutes can make a difference. Thinking about what happened throughout your day will help you to discover more about:

  • yourself,
  • your goals, and
  • the dreams that you have.

Journal to Magnify the Process of Conscious Reflection

As you learn to practice conscious reflection, it can help to write your thoughts down in a journal.

Think back to different events that occurred during your day. Allow yourself to examine it critically, just don’t be harsh! We definitely don’t want to add any negative self talk into the mix of this process.

The best way to reflect is simply to question yourself as if you were giving yourself a performance review. Look at both the things you are proud of and the areas where you still have some growing to do.

Beside the things that jump into your head, also look back over your day. See if there was a time when you should have spoken up and didn’t. Or when you should have taken the lead but shirked the responsibility.

Each time you have an insight into your behavior, it allows you to grow and stretch as a person. And that means more progress!

Use Your Mistakes to Grow

Start by asking what you could have done differently to improve your success that day. Because you’re human, you’re going to make some mistake. You’ll waste time, miss an opportunity, or mess up something that’s vital to your success.

When you practice your conscious reflection, think over what happened and the steps that led to the failure.

  • What were you thinking at the time?
  • What were you feeling?

By understanding what happened, it helps you to be more aware of how to avoid having the same situation happen again.

These failures will hamper your productivity ONLY IF you remain unconscious of the behavior. That leads us to our final way to become more successful through conscious reflection.

Decide In Advance What Your Reaction Is Going To Be

Have you noticed that you find yourself in the same situation more than once? Often when there’s an area within ourselves that needs improvement, we repeat the same behaviors over and over again.

For example, maybe you always find yourself butting heads with a loved one, a colleague or an employee? If so, take time to reflect on the event. Consciously look at the emotions behind how you were feeling at the time.

Why? Because when you become aware of the reasons behind your behavior, you become capable of acting differently the next time a similar situation arises.

Now imagine the same event and write down how you would have preferred to react. Again there is a reason for this. When you look back at that event and acknowledge that you don’t like your behavior you can then decide in advance the next time a similar event happens.

Next time you will be in control. More importantly, you can improve the relationships that are important to your success in both business and your personal life.

3 Easy & Actionable Steps That You Can Do TODAY

  1. Set aside 10 minutes every evening to consciously reflect on your day and SCHEDULE a reminder.
  2. Start keeping a journal. Focus on writing about the things you are proud of. Also record the areas where you still have some growing to do.
